Steve McGhee - Director (IMO)

Steve is a qualified metallurgist and chemist with over 29 years of experience in the mining industry including operations, engineering and project development. He has carried out operations management, engineering and project development work for large and small companies throughout Australia and overseas including Brazil, Chile, Malaysia, Mongolia, Romania and the Philippines covering a wide range of commodities. He has worked with all the unit processes required for the treatment of all minerals. Steve's career has given him the practical experience required to derive sound strategies for development successful mining projects, from concept to operation. Steve holds a BSc (Extractive Metallurgy and Chemistry).

David Symons - Managing Director (IMO)

Dave has over 28 years experience in metallurgy including mineral processing operations, metallurgical management and metallurgical services. Since 1998 he has held the role of Managing Director of Independent Metallurgical Operations Pty Ltd, where he has been intimately involved in the day to day operations of Australia's largest metallurgical service company and many of its clients and projects. David has carried out operations management, project work and consulting to various projects covering a number of commodities throughout Australia and overseas including Indonesia, Philippines, Kazakhstan and Fiji. He was previously a director of Manila Mining's gold/copper mine in the Philippines. Dave holds a BSc (Extractive Metallurgy).

Gary Johnson - Director (Strategic Metallurgy)

Gary Johnson has over 30 years experience in the mining industry as a metallurgist, manager, owner, director and managing director possessing broad technical and practical experience of the workings and strategies required by successful mining companies.

Prior to 2011 Gary was Managing Director of Norilsk Nickel Australia, reporting to the Deputy Director of International Assets at MMC Norilsk Nickel, the world’s largest nickel producer.

Gary now operates his own consulting business, Strategic Metallurgy Pty Ltd, specialising in high-level metallurgical and strategic consulting and is also a Board member of Hard Creek Nickel Corporation, an emerging TSX listed nickel company.

For many years Gary was a director of Tati Nickel Mining Company (Pty) Ltd, in Botswana. During his long association with Tati it grew to be a low-cost nickel producer and the largest nickel mine in Africa.

In 1998, Gary’s company, Aqueous Metallurgy Pty Ltd (Aqueous), and LionOre International came together to form Western Minerals Technology (WMT) with the principal objective being the further development and commercialisation of Activox®, a process technology for treating sulphide concentrates. WMT designed and constructed a large scale Activox® demonstration plant in Botswana. This project won the Engineers Australia Award for most innovative engineering project of 2004. Prior to establishing Aqueous, Gary was Chief Metallurgist for Dominion Mining Limited, at the time one of the largest gold producers in Australia. During the mid 1990s Dominion had annual production in excess of 400,000 oz per annum from 6 operating mines. At Dominion, Gary gained extensive experience in the development, operation and optimisation of (gold) mining projects.

Gary also has extensive uranium experience, including several years at Rossing Uranium Ltd in Namibia and with WMC at Olympic Dam.
